Beinn Ime and Ben Vane

Date: 15/04/2006
Height: 1400m
Distance: 9.5 miles
Grid: NN25500850 (Beinn Ime), NN27800980 Ben Vane
Companions: Dougie
Weather: Showery with pretty poor visibility, cloud base around 600m

Starting from Inveruglas, we followed the path towards the dam, we turned off to the left, crossed the bridge then after 200m headed up the hillside following the ESE shoulder/ridge.

It was a bit of a slog, with lots of false summits and there was a lot of snow and ice on the ground near the summit.

It rained most of the way to the summit of Ben Vane, from where we descended SW to a bealach / high point of the glen and then headed on towards Beinn Ime.

From the bealach we headed directly up the hillside towards the summit. The hillside opens to a wide corrie from where it became very tough, snow covered ground. We had to ‘kick steps’ on some of the steeper sections. The visibility was pretty bad at this stage, but we managed to come up a snowy bank and ‘top out’ directly onto the summit.

From the summit we headed off S to a very snowy bealach (we actually overshot it a bit) and then down to the glen to the track beside the Allt Coiregrogain and then back to the dam road. The walk out was around 5.5 miles and pretty enjoyable.
